our experience
Relate concepts to previously learned concepts:
- We have learned about genes in the past very simply. We have always known that everyone is made up of a different genetic makeup, much like a fingerprint and DNA.
- Probability from Math is used often to do things like Punnett Squares so we know what the chance is with percentages of the various outcomes.
- Currently, scientists and doctors are trying to figure out how to re-configure chromosomes so that patients with different mutations can be cured. In the future, we think that this will be used for people to know exactly what their child will look like or how to choose what genes they want their children to inherit.
- Our main limit was learning how to use different things like slideshows, videos, and pictures, onto the website. For example, we had to make each slide for the slideshow on the homepage and so we had to edit each photo to have a black background and then write what we want it to say.
- Solutions included using editing photo websites to make the photos the correct size for the website. Also, we started by using Google Sites, but was having trouble choosing a format and editing it, so we switched to using Weebly.
- The biggest challenge was meeting together in person because we had minimal class time and many snow days. We also were unsure of how to do the citations when we are all doing separate research. To solve these problems we made a Google Doc group folder and emailed each other. We also made a separate document for everyone to put the websites they used and Grant did all of our citations.
